Community Engagement Coordinator
Winnebago Area Literacy Council (WALC) is dedicated to providing free learner-centered adult literacy services since 1989. The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for cultivating relationships with volunteers and community partners, planning events, and managing marketing efforts to enhance engagement and visibility for the organization.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement strategies to recruit volunteers from diverse backgroundsManage the full prospective volunteer lifecycle, including applications, interviews, onboarding, and orientationMaintain accurate volunteer records and profiles in the internal database and tracking systemsDesign and deliver training programs that prepare volunteers for successProvide ongoing support, communication, and resources to volunteersCoordinate volunteer schedules and assignments, ensuring alignment with organizational needsFoster a positive, inclusive volunteer culture through recognition, appreciation events, and regular engagementPlan, coordinate, and execute organizational events, including volunteer appreciation events, fundraisers, workshops, and community outreach activitiesManage event logistics, timelines, volunteer participation, and materialsIdentify partnership opportunities that support volunteer recruitment, outreach, and program visibilityRepresent WALC at community events, presentations, and outreach opportunities to increase visibility and build partnershipsMaintain the agency calendar of events and ensure internal alignment across programsMaintain consistent branding across all print and digital materialsManage and regularly update WALC websiteCreate, schedule, and monitor content across all social media platforms to increase engagement and visibilityProduce and distribute the agencyβs monthly newsletter and volunteer digest to all stakeholdersGather and share learner and tutor success stories through written, visual, and digital channelsDraft press releases, promotional materials, flyers, brochures, graphics, and other communication assetsSupport fundraising campaigns with communications and volunteer mobilizationAssist with advocacy or awareness campaigns related to literacyStay informed about trends in literacy, nonprofit communications, and community engagementTrack volunteer hours, participation, and impactPrepare reports for internal use and grant requirementsCollect and analyze engagement metrics (social media analytics, email open rates, event attendance, volunteer retention trends)Use data to refine outreach strategies and improve volunteer engagementEnsure compliance with organizational policies and relevant regulationsRespond to inquiries from volunteers, partners, and community members in a timely and professional mannerCollaborate with staff across departments to align volunteer efforts, communications, and events with organizational goalsEvaluate and improve volunteer management systems, workflows, and communication processesParticipate in relevant trainings, conferences, or professional networksSkillsPrevious experience in volunteer management or community engagement is highly desirableDemonstrated experience in marketing and communications, with strong attention to detail and a data driven approachFamiliarity with event planning, fundraising, and community engagement strategiesComfort with digital tools such as CRM/volunteer management systems, email marketing platforms, and basic graphic design or content creation softwareStrong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritiesExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse individuals and groupsAbility to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environmentPassion for adult literacy (broadly defined) and love for reading is a plusPossess a valid driver's licenseExperience working with underserved or marginalized populations, especially BIPOC communitiesBilingual or multilingual abilities in one of the following languages (Spanish, Swahili, HMoob, French, Arabic, Dari, Dinka, or Burmese)Experience coordinating teams that center people's humanity while ensuring accountabilityBenefitsDental and Vision Insurance10 paid annual vacation (increase with tenure)Paid holidays3 sick days annuallyFlexible work scheduleBereavement leaveProvided with company vehicle/laptop/cell phone for work-related travel and communication.Company OverviewThe Winnebago Area Literacy Council (WALC) is a nonprofit, educational organization.
