Communications Intern
AARP Georgia seeks a Communications Intern to create content, analyze digital metrics, and support community engagement in a paid, hybrid internship.
Your Role
Key responsibilities include:
ā¢ Research federal issues and AARP initiatives, conduct interviews, and write social media, newsletter, and website content tailored to local audiences
ā¢ Create graphics and copy for social media accounts
ā¢ Attend events to produce content and photos for digital publications
ā¢ Assist in writing press releases and media alerts, adapting national news releases with local relevance for local media
ā¢ Collaborate on podcast production, including scheduling guests and developing interview questions
About You
What you'll need:
ā¢ Enrollment in an accredited college or university degree program as a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or postdoctoral student, with continuous academic enrollment throughout the internship
ā¢ Pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field
ā¢ Excellent news and feature story writing skills, coachable and open to editorial guidance
ā¢ Proficiency in Associated Press Style Guidelines
ā¢ Self-starter with adaptability and ability to work under tight deadlines
ā¢ Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate needs, and prioritize work
ā¢ Ability to work well with diverse populations including gender, race, and sexual orientation
ā¢ Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and Canva
ā¢ Familiarity with video creation/editing and knowledge of multiple social media platforms is a plus
ā¢ Regular and reliable attendance, professional respect for others, independent judgment, and ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
ā¢ Must be able to work in a hybrid environment with remote work limited to the U.S. and its territories
ā¢ AARP will not sponsor employment visas for this position
Compensation & Benefits
ā¢ Hourly pay: $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates
ā¢ Paid internship, non-exempt position without employee benefits
ā¢ Hybrid work environment with remote work on Mondays and Fridays except for essential functions
Training & Development
ā¢ Opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communications, storytelling, digital media, and event coverage
ā¢ Work on real-world projects including writing, social media content creation, digital metrics analysis, and podcast production
Career Progression
ā¢ Potential to extend internship beyond Fall 2025 semester based on performance and organizational needs
