Cloud Developer - AWS Modernization - Remote

About the position

KBR is seeking a skilled Cloud Developer to join our team in modernizing mission-critical solutions for the USGS EROS Center. As a member of a collaborative engineering team, you will help migrate on-premises systems to AWS, utilizing both lift-and-shift and full modernization approaches. The role includes designing and implementing event-driven architectures, optimizing cloud workloads, and working closely with other developers, architects, and stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions using Agile methodologies.

Note: This position is contingent upon contract award, customer approval, and funding availability.

Responsibilities
• Contribute to the migration of on-premises infrastructure to AWS using both lift-and-shift and modernization strategies.
• Participate in the design and implementation of event-driven systems leveraging AWS-native services (e.g., Lambda, SNS, SQS, EventBridge).
• Develop and maintain automation tools for provisioning, monitoring, and managing AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Collaborate with solution architects, engineers, and other team members to deliver secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud solutions.
• Support the design and optimization of CI/CD pipelines using industry-standard tools (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline).
• Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
• Implement configuration management and automation using tools like Ansible.
• Troubleshoot and support cloud-based applications in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
• Contribute to documentation and process improvements to enhance system reliability and efficiency.
• Identify and implement AWS cloud cost optimization strategies, incorporating FinOps principles.
• Participate in Agile teams, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives, delivering incremental value through iterative development.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or software development, with a focus on AWS technologies.
• Hands-on experience with lift-and-shift migrations and event-driven system design in AWS.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK, or AWS CloudFormation.
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
• Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar for automation.
• Strong understanding of cloud security, networking, and AWS best practices.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and automation.
• Demonstrated FinOps ability to reduce cloud spend through cost optimization strategies.
• Experience working in Agile development environments and applying Agile methodologies.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical documentation.
• This position requires U.S. Citizenship due to contractual and security requirements.
• Three years of continuous U.S. residency for government security credential.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation for government facility access.

Nice-to-haves
• Associate, Professional, or Specialty certifications in AWS that are relevant to cloud development (e.g., AWS Certified Developer - Associate, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional, AWS Certified Security - Specialty).
• Experience with Agile methodologies and modern software engineering practices.
• Experience designing and implementing event-driven architectures in AWS.
• Familiarity with government security credential requirements and ability to obtain necessary clearances.
