Our CDI team plays a strategic role in supporting quality outcomes, accurate coding, and data integrity across the hospital. Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists collaborate directly with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to ensure documentation reflects severity of illness, risk of mortality, and the full scope of patient care.

How you’ll contribute

A Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDIS) who excels in this role:
• Facilitates improvement in the overall quality, completeness, and accuracy of clinical documentation.
• Serves as local resource providing support, training, and continued education to all members of the health care team on documentation guidelines.
• Conducts timely follow up reviews of clinical documentation to ensure that issues discussed and issued queries have been answered by providers.
• Stays current with requirements of CMS Inpatient Prospective Payment Systems (IPPS), AHA Coding Clinic and Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting related to ICD10.
• Performs charge audits monthly in order to satisfy the SOX audit process by analyzing patient records and comparing to patient bills.
• Participates in the analysis and trending of statistical data for specified patient populations to identify opportunities for improvement by trending this information through the Chartwise system.

What we’re looking for: Applicants should possess one or a combination thereof of the following:
• Licensed Registered Nurse RN in state of Virginia (or compact state), RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification.
• Prior experience in Case Management, CDI, and/or coding is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in clinical role or 2 years in inpatient coding in an acute care facility is required.
• Experience with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and knowledge of CMS Inpatient Prospective Payment is preferred.

TCRH is considered a rural hospital that serves a large Medicare population, as well as, a total population of approximately 60,000. We operate within a 100-mile radius.
