Job Summary of City Transport Operator: Carry and distribute goods from Service Centers to customers while aiding in sales activities. Reponsibilities of City Transport Operator: • Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles (and triples, where applicable) and/or straight trucks Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer • Utilize a combination of motorized and manual tools to handle cargo effectively, which includes forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. Secure cargo within trailers using appropriate equipment like pallets, straps, and ropes. Take necessary steps to recover or fix any freight that is found to be damaged. Confirm completion of essential documentation and reports. Follow regulations and procedures for handling hazardous materials • Gather funds or checks to cover the cost of shipping, as necessary, and ensure all relevant paperwork is kept up to date • Ensure compliance with dispatch guidelines and maintain open communication with dispatch, covering aspects like delays, arrivals, and equipment malfunctions. Consult with clients to identify their transportation needs and encourage potential business growth. Exhibit adept customer service skills towards both internal and external stakeholders • There might be a need to engage in the linking of vehicle tires in a chained fashion • Possibly tasked with fulfilling the job requirements of a road driver or dock personnel when operationally essential. Follow all relevant legislation and rules, along with company policies. Conduct any other assigned responsibilities as necessary Qualification of City Transport Operator: • An essential qualification includes having a class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) that covers endorsements for double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank operations. • Automatic transmission CDL limitation is an authorized restriction that permits a driver to solely operate vehicles with automatic transmission technology. • Candidates need to have one year of recent experience or finish the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course to qualify. Additionally, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) meeting set hiring criteria is required • In order to drive Long Combination Vehicles (LCVs) in these states, drivers must adhere to the specified standards for qualification and certification • Fundamental numerical skills and the capacity to carry out basic mathematical computations • Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week. • Strong capacity to sit for long periods, bend, turn, crouch, and ascend or descend from a truck. Skilled in comprehending and executing given directives along with fulfilling necessary training • The skill to function self-sufficiently or in cooperation with others Working Conditions of City Transport Operator: • Drive throughout shift on all types of roads and in all types of weather Exposure to noise and vibration Exposure to dust and diesel fumes Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations Hours may vary due to operational need • The Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance. • An employee will not be allowed to drive a commercial motor vehicle without this endorsement.
