About The Job

The Tepa Companies are seeking a Chemist that will provide subject matter expertise for multi-year environmental remediation projects for various federal agencies including the Department of Defense (DoD). Chemistry expertise will be applied to the investigation/characterization, drinking water mitigation, remedial design, remedy implementation/construction, operations and maintenance and/or long-term monitoring phases of the CERCLA, RCRA Corrective Action and/or state regulatory program processes.
Job Functions
• Supports chemistry related activities for projects, laboratory analysis, and data validation for environmental samples.
• Collaborates with program managers, project managers, scientists, engineers, geologists, and teaming partners during planning and execution of field activities that include collection of multi-media environmental samples.
• Supports project teams in the development of Uniform Federal Policy for Quality Assurance Project Plans (UFP-QAPP), Data Quality Objectives (DQOs), and sampling and analytical methods specific to requirements of sites. Projects may include sites contaminated by hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, metals, PFAS, munitions constituents, and radiological contaminants.
• Performs and review, verification, and validation of laboratory results according to DoD data validation guidelines (Stage 2A, 2B and 4) and writes data usability assessments reports.
• Oversees laboratory and data validation subcontractors, including coordination and communications, development of plans, preparation of subcontract agreements, specification of laboratory QA/QC requirements.
• Supports preparation of environmental reports, including descriptions of field sampling and chemical analyses relevant to specific project activities.
• Conducts troubleshooting and development of corrective actions in response to deviations from laboratory QA/QC and QAPP requirements.
• Oversees upload of laboratory data in data management systems including ERPIMS, EQuIS, FUDSChem, coordinating and troubleshooting with labs, database support contractors and client representatives.
• Works directly with client counterparts in establishing field sampling and analytical processes.
• Develop and support specialized sampling and analytical methods to address sites impacted by PFAS.
• Works closely with program managers to support business development initiatives, including leading or supporting proposal efforts.
• May assist in writing and/or reviewing reports such as O&M reports and Emergency Response Action Memos, as well as planning and coordination of field activities.
What We’re Looking For
• Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry.
• 5 years of relevant experience.
• Thorough understanding of organic and inorganic chemistry and analytical procedures.
• Experience with DoD Quality Systems Manual (QSM) and DoD Data Validation Guidelines.
• Experience with PFAS analysis by EPA 1633 and data validation guidelines for Stage 2A, 2B, and 4.
• Experience with CERCLA, RCRA Corrective Action, and equivalent state programs.
• Demonstrated ability to fulfill commitments on schedule and meet clients' service expectations and requirements.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships and interacting with multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong technical and problem-solving skills, including logical thinking, attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness, as well as a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks to meet multiple schedule deadlines.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel.
