Charge Capture Specialist
Description
Charge Capture Specialist Full Time
Responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and complete charge capture within the electronic health record system to support coding finalization and billing processes. Serves as a liaison between Health Information Management (HIM) and Patient Financial Services (PFS) to resolve charge discrepancies, perform charge reconciliation, and support workflow efficiency across the revenue cycle. Maintains a working knowledge of the Charge Description Master (CDM), coding workflows, and billing processes within the Meditech Expanse system. Reviews accounts for missing or incorrect charges, performs soft charge entry as needed, and routes accounts appropriately for final coding and claim submission. Ensures system records are accurate and compliant with regulatory standards, reducing rework, improving clean claim rates, and supporting timely reimbursement.
Requirements
Education
High school diploma or GED required.
Associate degree in Health Information Management, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and relevant healthcare revenue cycle experience may be considered.
Experience
Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in: Hospital billing
Charge capture
Medical coding
Revenue cycle operations
Experience in a hospital setting preferred.
