Wolf Greenfield is a law firm specializing in intellectual property, and they are seeking a Biotech Patent Paralegal to support their Biotech, Pharmaceutical, and Chemical Practice Groups. The role involves managing patent prosecution projects, conducting literature searches, and preparing patent application documents.ResponsibilitiesSupports Biotech, Pharmaceutical and/or Chemical Practice Group prosecution duties:Conducts basic literature searchesAnalyzes and prepares DNA and amino acid sequence listings in connection with patent application filingsConverts drawings to text in patent application specificationsPrepares drawings and sends to draftsmen for preparation; proofread formal drawings for patent applicationsPrepares case charts and docket reportsPrepares description of scientific data for patent applicationsAssists with setting up patent application documentsPrepares and files Information Disclosure Statements with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)Prepares disclosures of information for submission with foreign patent offices and coordinate with foreign associates regarding sameReviews Office Actions from U.S. and foreign patent offices for cited referencesReviews patent files for prior art before payment of issue fee and upon intake into the firmEffectively organizes references in connection with patent portfolios into prior art databases and routinely maintain these databasesCompiles, populates, and maintains electronic archive of prior artCorresponds with clients and works with Firm’s library department to collect materials needed in connection with duty of disclosureManages attorney and client dockets relating to the duty of disclosure in U.S. and foreign jurisdictions and meet regularly with attorneys regarding sameDevelops and maintains knowledge of patent office rules and procedures in connection with U.S. and foreign duty of disclosure and other areas of patent prosecutionMeets the position’s 1200 billable hour goal and adheres to best practices for daily time entryWorks with team to collaborate on large projects; positively contributes to the department and firmSkillsBachelor's or master's degree in biology or BiochemistryMinimum of one to two (1-2) years of prior experience working in a professional settingPrior patent prosecution related experience in a law firm or corporate setting a plusProficient in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel as well as basic computer and database management skillsExceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate workflow and project updatesStrong time management, prioritization, problem-solving, and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environmentExcellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to accuracy and detailSome knowledge of legal terminology, rules, regulations, and procedures surrounding intellectual propertyStrong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with difference levels of constituenciesFlexibility and capacity to respond calmly, efficiently, and effectively in stressful situationsAbility to adhere to established work schedule, but with flexibility required to respond to workload demands including overtime requests when neededPunctual and reliable and able to meet set deadlines and work effectively under pressureAbility to maintain confidentiality of matters and other firm business informationKnowledge of Dialog, STN, GenomeQuest, and/or PatBase a plusBenefitsMultiple health care plan optionsVision and dental insuranceFlexible spending accounts/health saving accountsLife insuranceEmployer sponsored 401(k) plan includes an employer match and discretionary profit sharingTuition reimbursementProfessional development opportunitiesGenerous paid time off; including sick time and vacation timeParental leaveCommuter benefitsCharitable matching gift programWell-being supportCompany OverviewWolf Greenfield is the largest Boston law firm devoted exclusively to intellectual property law.
