Billing & Claims Specialist (1099 Contractor)

Job Overview Join our dynamic team as a Billing & Claims Specialist (1099 Contractor) (New Jersey Based Applicants Preferred) and take charge of the billing and claims processes that keep our operations running smoothly! In this role, you'll take full ownership of the billing and claims cycle - including claim submissions, payment posting, payer communication, and follow-up. You'll coordinate directly with insurance payers and clients to ensure timely, accurate reimbursement and consistent cash flow. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, takes pride in accuracy, and understands the importance of keeping billing operations running smoothly.Key Responsibilities:• Prepare, review, and submit claims accurately through our EMR and Clearinghouse systems• Manage remittance advice, reconcile payments, and resolve discrepancies.• Track claims from submission to payment; maintain clear records of claim statuses and payer communications.• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, including calling payers and submitting appeals as needed.• Coordinate directly with insurance payers to resolve claim or payment issues efficiently.• Communicate with clients to schedule billing, coordinate invoices, and address billing-related questions.• Review aging reports and maintain AR balances within target levels.• Collaborate with the clinical and administrative teams to ensure documentation, codes, and authorizations align with payer requirements.• Generate and maintain monthly billing and AR reports.• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and payer-specific billing regulationsQualifications• Proven experience in medical billing and claims management, ideally in behavioral health or ABA• Strong understanding of insurance claims, including denials, resubmissions, and appeals• Familiarity with CPT/HCPCS codes, modifiers, and payer-specific billing rules.• Experience with EMR systems and Clearinghouses (Central Reach experience preferred)• Proficiency with Excel or Google Sheets for tracking and reporting.• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.• Strong communication and phone skills for working with payers and clients.• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.• Reliable internet connection and secure remote workspace.Why Join BTBSAt Brighter Tomorrow Behavioral Services, we're dedicated to improving the lives of children and families through high-quality ABA therapy --- and that starts with a dependable, professional team behind the scenes.
