Behavioral Health Billing specialist

Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Behavioral Health Billing Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing billing processes related to behavioral health services, ensuring accurate coding, claims submission, and follow-up. This role requires a strong understanding of medical billing procedures, coding systems, and electronic health record (EHR) systems. The successful applicant will play a vital role in maintaining efficient revenue cycle management while adhering to industry standards and regulations.

Duties
• Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG codes for behavioral health services.
• Review medical records and documentation to ensure proper coding and billing compliance.
• Manage accounts receivable by following up on unpaid or denied claims through medical collections processes.
• Utilize EMR/EHR systems to document billing activities and update patient records accordingly.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to clarify documentation or coding discrepancies.
• Ensure adherence to medical terminology standards and maintain confidentiality of medical records.
• Monitor insurance reimbursements and resolve billing issues efficiently to optimize revenue.
• Stay current with updates in ICD coding, CPT coding, and healthcare regulations affecting billing practices.

Experience
• Prior experience in medical billing within a behavioral health or mental health setting is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, and DRG classification systems.
• Familiarity with medical office operations, including the use of EMR/EHR systems.
• Experience with medical records management and medical terminology is essential.
• Proven ability to perform accurate medical coding and billing tasks while adhering to compliance standards.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in handling complex billing procedures.
