Barrick - Safety and Health Specialist, NA Reclamation & Closure
JOB PURPOSE This role leads the implementation of safety and health standards for the North America Legacy sites in alignment with Barrick’s commitment to creating a Zero Harm Workplace. The successful candidate will work with site teams and regional safety resources to ensure critical safety risks are systematically identified and controlled in accordance with internal and external requirements. The role is remote, with travel required.RESPONSIBILITIES Provide visible safety leadership and drive a strong health and safety cultureLead the implementation of standards to address critical safety and health risksProvide leadership, promote awareness, and be a resource in safety and health related matters for employees and contractorsGuide safety practices across multiple remote sites with limited on-site presence Serve as a resource or facilitator for incident investigations (ICAM or 5 Whys analysis) to ensure root causes are identified and corrective actions developed to prevent recurrence Facilitate risk assessments, management of change requests, and development of standards, procedures, and legal obligation registersProvide safety and health coaching, mentoring, and training to employees, and develop orientation and training materialsParticipate in internal inspections and audits, and guide development of corrective actions to facilitate continuous improvementMaintain accurate documentation and data entry, complete internal and external reports, and share lessons learnedLead implementation and maintenance of Cority and other systems as requiredCoordinate and chair the NA Legacy Health & Safety CommitteeWork with all employees and staff to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company standards and systemsQUALIFICATIONSAssociate degree in a safety-based curriculum or a Bachelor of Science degree (may be waived for significant Occupational Safety and Health experience) Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Safety and Health industry, preferably in the US or CanadaKnowledge and working experience with mine closure, mining, construction or water treatment activitiesWorking knowledge of US and/or Canadian mine safety requirements (e.g. MSHA, OSHA, WorkSafe BC etc.), applied based on site-specific activitiesStrong people leadership, coaching and influencing skills with direct reports, indirect reports, and peersExcellent written and verbal communication skills Strong organization, planning, and problem-solving skills Professional safety certifications (e.g., CSP/CRSP)Experience with management systems (ISO14001 or ISO45001) Excellent safety record with ability to demonstrate safety leadership Ability and willingness to travel within the US and Canada
