Attorney, Legal Advocacy Team

Remote Full-time
About Animal Outlook

Animal Outlook is a national nonprofit animal protection organization dedicated to disrupting animal agribusiness and building a better tomorrow for all animals. Through strategic undercover investigations, legal advocacy, and corporate engagement, we work to expose cruelty and create systemic change for farmed animals.

The Opportunity

We’re seeking a talented attorney to join our legal advocacy team. This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role at the intersection of investigations and litigation, protecting the organization while building powerful cases that advance animal protection. You’ll provide legal guidance to internal teams, prepare evidence for criminal prosecutions, and support high-impact litigation challenging animal agribusiness practices.

What You’ll Do

Investigations Legal Support

You’ll serve as the primary legal advisor for Animal Outlook’s undercover investigations program, analyzing relevant laws and guidelines, advising the organization on liability related to investigations, and providing legal input on media releases. You will also review investigations footage and, where applicable, build strong cases for criminal prosecution, liaising directly with law enforcement throughout prosecution and enforcement actions.

Litigation

Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Legal Advocacy, you’ll support and collaborate on litigation and other projects designed to advance Animal Outlook’s legal strategy. For select cases, you’ll prepare litigation documents, develop and maintain productive relationships with clients throughout representation, and select and establish relationships with co-counsel, pro bono counsel, and expert witnesses. You’ll help develop and execute high-impact litigation, identify adverse administrative regulations vulnerable to legal challenge, and maintain tracking documentation for legal advocacy work.

Building the Field of Animal Law

You’ll contribute to developing the emerging field of animal law by occasionally speaking at conferences and other venues, sharing your expertise and helping to establish farmed animal protection as a recognized area of legal practice.

Team Leadership

You’ll recruit, interview, hire, train, and supervise law school legal interns and externs, as well as pro bono attorneys, helping to build the next generation of animal law practitioners.

What We’re Looking For

Required:
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• Active admission to a U.S. state bar in good standing
• Strong legal research and writing skills
• Litigation experience, with demonstrated ability to draft legal documents
• Commitment to Animal Outlook’s mission and the protection of farmed animals

Preferred:
• Familiarity with animal protection issues and the animal agriculture industry
• Experience in criminal law, public interest law, or civil rights litigation
• Experience managing legal interns, externs, or pro bono counsel
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
• Excellent judgment in assessing legal risk and providing strategic counsel

What We Offer

Animal Outlook provides a supportive, mission-driven work environment where you can make a real difference for animals. Benefits include remote work flexibility, flexible schedule, comprehensive health benefits, retirement plan, and generous paid time off.

To Apply

Application Deadline: May 6, 2026

Please submit your CV, cover letter, writing sample, and transcript to [email protected]. In your cover letter, please describe your interest in animal protection and how your legal experience prepares you for this role.

This position offers the rare opportunity to combine legal expertise with meaningful advocacy work that directly protects animals and challenges one of the most harmful industries on the planet. If you’re passionate about using your legal skills to create systemic change, we’d love to hear from you.

Animal Outlook is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds.
