Asst Professor - Sensory Biology/Zoology & Physiology

Remote Full-time
About the position

The University of Wyoming is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Sensory Biology within the Department of Zoology and Physiology. This position is aimed at attracting an outstanding scientist who will conduct mechanistic studies to address fundamental or translational questions in sensory systems. The successful candidate will engage in research that may encompass cellular, molecular, and physiological mechanisms underlying sensory perception, sensory processing, and related neural circuits. Additionally, the research should explore how these systems are affected by aging, disease, or environmental factors. Candidates with expertise in various model organisms and sensory modalities, such as interoception, are encouraged to apply. The department is particularly interested in applicants who utilize cutting-edge, multi-disciplinary, and integrative laboratory research approaches to investigate sensory biology, particularly in mammals or zebrafish models. The selected candidate will be expected to develop a robust, extramurally funded research program focused on understanding the biology of sensory systems. They will also be a part of the interdisciplinary research team associated with the federally funded Wyoming Sensory Biology Center (WSBC) of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE). This center fosters collaboration among investigators from multiple colleges, including the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences and Natural Resources (CALSNR), Health Sciences, and Engineering and Physical Sciences, to address critical issues in sensory system function and dysfunction, including aging. The candidate will have the opportunity to leverage and enhance the Integrated Microscopy Core facility and the NIH-funded Wyoming IDeA Networks for Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) Data Science Core. In addition to research responsibilities, the candidate is expected to contribute to the teaching missions of the Physiology and Biology degrees and interdisciplinary graduate education by developing new undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses that align with their area of expertise. The role also includes participation in service activities, such as serving on departmental, college, and university committees, as well as graduate committees and search committees, in addition to discipline-related service activities at national and international levels.
