The role involves designing, developing, and testing software applications for the power systems industry, focusing on efficient real-time monitoring and security analysis of transmission networks.ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop and test software applications used in the power systems industryAnalyze customer requirements and develop software application designs that satisfy customer requirementsDevelop product documentation for software applicationsDesign theoretical algorithms and deliver the implementation in software applicationsCreate test procedures and perform testing including unit and algorithm proof testingMaintain existing power system software applications and internal toolsPerform technical reviews on development work productsStay up to date with the latest NERC/FERC standards and power system engineering industry developmentsSkillsBachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, BSEE with Power Systems Emphasis, Mathematics or related technical fieldUnderstanding of power systems concepts in generation, transmission, distribution, distributed energy resources (DER)/DER integration and/or outage managementProficiency with analytical tools, e.g., MATLAB, PSLF, CYME, PowerWorld or other similar toolsExposure to Transient Switching studies using EMTP/EMTDC/PSCAD or equivalent softwareProficiency in C, C++ and/or C# coding (school or work setting)Demonstrated understanding/application of knowledge in areas of power flow, state estimation, DER control and network optimizationKnowledge of high voltage Electrical Power SystemsExperience developing software in a commercial setting using C, C++ and/or C#Advanced degree (MS, PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering with Power Systems Emphasis, Mathematics or related technical fieldBenefitsPaid time offCharitable giveback dayMedical/dental/vision insuranceRetirement benefitsCompany OverviewAspen Technology is a global leader in industrial software.
