The firm handles a broad spectrum of criminal cases, including drug offenses, gun crimes, domestic violence, sex crimes, and white-collar crimes, across all 58 counties in California.Position SummaryTully & Weiss is seeking a dedicated and experienced Associate Criminal Defense Attorney with a strong background in felony trials to join our Martinez, CA office. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in handling complex felony cases, demonstrate exceptional courtroom skills, and align with our commitment to providing strategic and aggressive defense for our clients.Key ResponsibilitiesManage a diverse caseload of felony criminal defense matters, including but not limited to murder, manslaughter, drug trafficking, gun crimes, and sex offenses.Lead and participate in all phases of criminal litigation, from pre-trial motions and hearings to trial preparation and court appearances.Develop and execute comprehensive defense strategies tailored to the unique circumstances of each case.Collaborate with senior attorneys, investigators, and support staff to build compelling defenses.Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates and guidance throughout the legal process.Stay abreast of developments in criminal law and legal precedents to ensure effective representation.QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.Active membership in the California State Bar.Minimum of 3 years of experience practicing criminal law, with a focus on felony defense.Demonstrated experience in conducting felony cases, including jury trials.Strong analytical, research, and writing skills.Excellent oral advocacy and negotiation abilities.Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.Commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards and client confidentiality.Preferred ExperienceExperience in handling high-profile or complex criminal cases.Familiarity with the criminal justice system in Contra Costa County and surrounding areas.Fluency in Spanish or other languages is a plus.Compensation and BenefitsCompetitive salary commensurate with experience.Performance-based bonuses.Comprehensive health and dental insurance.401(k) with matching.Generous paid time off and holidays, including a 6-day sabbatical after 7 full years in addition to regular vacation time.Payment of State Bar fees.Payment of Malpractice Insurance fees.Continuing legal education (CLE) support.Coverage of gym or athletic memberships.Fun team bonding including some "Movie Fridays."Opportunities for professional development and advancement within the firm.Company DescriptionTully & Weiss is an extremely innovative criminal defense firm committed to quality representation while maintaining strict ethics.
