Responsibilities Draft, review, and sign legal documents including pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements in compliance with California civil procedure Appear in court and administrative hearings as needed across California jurisdictions (virtual and in-person) Participate in case strategy discussions and collaborate with other attorneys and support staff to ensure the timely and accurate progression of cases Conduct legal research and deliver sound legal advice to clients under attorney-client privilege Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and internal staff to advance case resolution Stay current with California law, procedural updates, and evolving best practices in assigned practice areas Maintain detailed case notes and ensure compliance with firm protocols, deadlines, and ethical standards Actively contribute to a culture centered around justice, empathy, and collaboration Skills Active license to practice law in California and good standing Willingness and ability to appear in court and manage active litigation caseloads Excellent legal writing, communication, and analytical skills Passion for public service and client advocacy, particularly in underserved areas such as family law and civil rights Strong organizational skills and comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume legal environment Proficiency with legal technology and AI tools (case management systems, e-filing platforms, Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) Sacramento-based or able to appear in NorCal courts as needed; other California-based attorneys encouraged to apply Experience or interest in civil litigation, tenant rights, or education law Benefits 401(k) Flexible schedule Health insurance Referral program Tuition reimbursement Company Overview James L.
