Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is hiring an Assistant Project Manager (Civil Engineering Specialist, Assistant I) to support the delivery of essential water, wastewater, and drainage projects across the city.

This entry-level position is perfect for someone who’s organized, detail-oriented, and ready to jump into the fast-paced world of infrastructure project delivery. You’ll work alongside experienced project managers to help move critical capital improvement projects forward—supporting everything from field documentation and permitting, to vendor coordination and compliance tracking.

In this role, you can expect to:
• Coordinate permitting timelines and assist in preparing documentation for review and submittal
• Communicate with permitting agencies, internal teams, and external vendors to support project delivery
• Help onboard vendors, track contracts, and assist with invoice processing
• Collect, organize, and upload field data, photos, and inspection logs
• Attend project meetings, take notes, and follow up on action items
• Maintain internal schedules, trackers, and compliance documentation systems
• Support construction closeout by organizing records and ensuring documentation is complete
• Assist with multiple projects across SPU’s water, drainage, and wastewater portfolios

Education: Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or two years of college level coursework in engineering and construction technology (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class)
Experience/Education Equivalency: In lieu of an associate’s degree in an accredited program, two (2) additional years of civil engineering work experience under the supervision of a licensed engineer may be substituted.

License, Certification and Other Requirements:
• Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
• Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment
• Field assignments entail exposure to all types of weather, traffic, hazardous/toxic substances and work in or near construction sites
• May be required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time

This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Effective January 2025, City employees have the option to work remotely two days per week. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.

The full salary range for this position is: $39.12 - $45.54 Hourly
