Assistant Designer
Aéropostale is looking for an Assistant Designer to support the Design team in creating and executing a product line. The role involves researching trends, maintaining design office organization, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to prepare for milestone meetings.ResponsibilitiesCreate sketches of styles in developmentMaintain logs for sample tracking and update CBS sheetsMaintain seasonal collection boards and wallsExecute organized, accurate technical packagesCreate and update flat technical sketches for design tech packsDevelop strong working relationships with cross functional team members (Merchandising, Production and Graphics) through communication and problem solvingCreate and update seasonal assortment sheetMaintain awareness of current selling information as well as market trends and conditionsUnderstand the basics of the production process as it relates to the classificationMaintain awareness of corporate calendar and help supervisor manage deadlinesAttend and participate in fit sessionsTake detailed notes and follow up as neededAssist in day to day responsibilities including filing/organizing, copying and updating development packagesAssist in approving strike-offs, lab-dips and other development materialsShop the market on a regular basis for ideas and inspirationPrepare presentation materials for weekly and milestone meetings; garment samples, line sheets, CBS sheetsResearch and identify trends that are relevant to the Brands customerCreate inspiration boards for seasonal trendsSupport design presentation prep for cross-functional and external meetings when neededAssist with color and fabric development (including tracking submits and approvals)Help maintain a seasonal competitive market matrix (silhouettes, trends, etc.)Keep digital assets organized and up-to-date across shared folders/PLMSupport line planning in partnership with merchandising (especially for different channels like core/fashion/digital)Help track samples, manage incoming packages, and coordinate with production partnersSkillsBachelor's Degree preferred1-2 years of experienceStrong sketching skills with the ability to sketch quickly in IllustratorMust demonstrate proficiency in CAD, Photoshop, & IllustratorMust have ability to be flexible, multi-task and shift prioritiesExcellent organizational and communication skillsUnderstanding of the youth market and Aero customerBasic knowledge of garment construction/sewingStrong time management, especially around tight deadlinesTeam player with a collaborative, flexible mindset—comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environmentStrong visual and storytelling skills (especially for trend or concept boards)Travel may be required, based on business needsAdhere to regular in-office presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaborationMust have authorization to work in the United StatesExperience using PLM is a plusCompany OverviewAéropostale is a specialty retailer of casual apparel and accessories for guys and girls ages 18-22.
