Online Teacher The online teacher develops materials and lesson plans, conducts online instruction and evaluates and assesses student performance. The online teacher meets with parents, interprets student progress, and informs parents/guardians about student strengths, weaknesses, and progress. Essential duties and responsibilities include knowing the primary concepts and structures of effective online instruction and creating learning experiences to enable student success. The online teacher should be able to select and use a variety of online tools for communication, productivity, collaboration, analysis, presentation, research, and online content delivery as appropriate to the content area and student needs. Communication technologies should be used in a variety of mediums and contexts for teaching and learning. Troubleshooting skills should be applied, and strategies should be planned, designed, and incorporated to encourage active learning, application, interaction, participation, and collaboration in the online environment. Effective communication skills should be used with students, and new tools should be identified and explored for their applicability to content areas and students. Prompt feedback should be provided, and high expectations communicated, respecting diverse talents and learning styles. Clear definitions of objectives, concepts, and learning outcomes should be provided, and criteria for appropriate online behavior should be established and implemented. Student data should be used to inform instruction, guide and monitor students' management of their time, monitor learner progress with available tools, and develop an intervention plan for unsuccessful learners. A variety of methods and tools should be used to reach and engage students who are struggling. Student progress should be monitored and activities and tools relevant to the needs of all students, including those with learning or physical disabilities, should be applied in collaboration with appropriate staff or resources. Adaptive and assistive technologies should be applied in the online classroom where appropriate in the instruction to meet student needs. Communication with appropriate school staff regarding specific accommodations, modifications, or needs as listed in a student's IEP or 504 accommodations should be done, and collaboration with others to address student needs should be supported. Interaction in a professional, effective manner with colleagues, parents, students, and other members of the community to support students' success should be demonstrated. Competencies in creating and implementing assessments in online learning environments in ways that ensure validity and reliability of the instruments and procedures should be demonstrated. Qualifications include a BA/BS degree required, prefer MA degree, appropriate Minnesota licensure for area of teaching, 3-5 years teaching experience, demonstrated experience providing staff development, demonstrated teaching skills, good human relation skills, good communication and collaboration skills, technology and troubleshooting skills with computer software and hardware, strong background in the use of Google Applications, experience with learning management systems such as Schoology, classroom integration and best practices using Chromebooks, designing and implementing online content.
