About the position

Lead efforts to provide quality academic advising, course planning, curriculum understanding, and success strategies to students across all programs of the college. Utilize campus technology (Workday, Perceptive Content, Cadence, Bookings, Blackboard, Transferology, Microsoft Office) to deliver expert content knowledge to students and be able to present options so that students can feel empowered to make decisions in their academic journey. Provide an equitable experience to all populations of students, including: traditional, nontraditional, at-risk, diverse socio-economic statuses, students of color, LGBTQIA+, and first-generation students. Collaborate with other campus stakeholders to analyze data necessary for student retention, persistence, and completion. Identify barriers to student success and prescribe resources to overcome barriers on an administrative level, while advocating for the student voice in major college decisions. Facilitate the development of meaningful plans that are compatible with student academic, career, transfer, and life goals.

Responsibilities
• Manage a caseload and serve as main point of contact for up to 900 new and continuing students to provide expertise on program onboarding, curriculum, academic policies, and enrollment.
• Develop, coordinate, and lead New Student Registration (NSR) process for all incoming program students. This includes instructing students on important program information, curriculum, use of campus technology (FVTC Email, Blackboard, MyFVTC), and other FVTC resources.
• Analyze data and identify students at risk for persisting and completing their program. Contact and communicate with students who are at risk of not completing courses and/or programs.
• Provide proactive case management by program based on individual student needs and unique program specifications.
• Provide holistic academic advising experience based on National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) CAS Standards for academic and career advising.
• Address the needs of a diverse population of students by connecting with appropriate resources, including traditional, nontraditional, at-risk, diverse socio-economic statuses, students of color, queer, trans, gender-diverse, international, and first-generation students.
• Assess outcomes, quantify results, and analyze reports using software including but not limited to PeopleSoft/Workday, Perceptive Content, Cadence, Bookings, Blackboard, Transferology, and Microsoft Office.
• Utilize various software to maintain academic records, record notes, manage advising schedules, and deliver timely communication. This is including but not limited to: PeopleSoft/Workday, Perceptive Content, Cadence, Bookings, Blackboard, Transferology, and Microsoft Office.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement data-informed strategies for student retention, persistence, and completion.
• Use proactive and developmental measures to address students by need.
• Create Master Advising Plans (MAPs) with students to show education as a big picture while addressing barriers to success and strategies to achieve academic success through graduation.
• Lead Early Academic Alert efforts to intervene with students who are at risk of non-completion.
• Execute regular communication plans with students to foster a working relationship between Advisor and student.
• Lead re-enrollment campaigns to increase retention rates, and in turn, increase enrollment for the college.
• Interpret FVTC academic policies and lay out options to students so that they can make informed decisions about their education. This includes academic and financial aid standing, assessment score requirements, progression policies, class overrides, grade policies, refund policy, emergency withdrawal policy, etc.
• Identify personal and academic barriers to student success. Help students explore options for overcoming anticipated barriers, including providing appropriate referrals to college and community resources.
• Educate students on how to use the appropriate resources to accomplish academic goals.
• Develop, coordinate, and lead Faculty Quality Assurance System (FQAS) workshops, educational programs, and engagement initiatives to support college-wide strategic goals.

Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Psychology, Student Development, etc.) required, Master’s Degree preferred
• A minimum of two years of recent, related experience which includes responsibility for working with students in providing advising and/or guidance in a college educational or transitional program
• Demonstrated experience supporting and faculty and counselors in assisting students in developing personal plans (establish career, educational, and/or employment objectives and steps/services needed to accomplish)
• OR An equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience.
• Demonstrated experience with developing and using collaborative relationships and to identify and engage necessary resources to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals required.
• Demonstrated experience in working with a diverse student body, staff and community.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with staff and students.
• Knowledge and experience regarding the needs of students with multiple educational barriers is required.
• Ability to assess outcomes, quantify results, and prepare reports.
• Commitment to customer service, continuous improvement, student learning, and success.
• Demonstrated success record in team-based operations and management.
• Excellent leadership skills and the ability to foster a team environment.
• Demonstrated skill in cultural competence, communications, and supporting individuals with diverse backgrounds and identities.

• Ability to obtain information and identify key issues and relationships relevant to achieving goals and managing a course of action to accomplish the identified goals.
• Demonstrated knowledge of developmental, academic, and career advising skills for liberal arts, technical, and/or occupational program students.
• Demonstrated knowledge of transfer opportunities, program and degree requirements, certifications, admission/petitioning processes, and other pertinent information to deliver effective advising.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with all individuals connected with the organization including students, staff, faculty, and the public.
• Demonstrated skill in providing students with entrance and transition guidance and direction in an educational or transitional program.
• Ability to work effectively with administrators, faculty, support staff, students, employers, and business/community leaders.

Nice-to-haves
• Master’s Degree preferred
• Experience with PeopleSoft/Workday Student Information Systems and Microsoft Office is strongly preferred.
