Position Summary:

The Adjunct Faculty role includes primary responsibility for providing quality instruction and maintaining a positive learning environment with an emphasis placed on teaching, supporting and evaluating students. Assigned courses are online instruction.

Course Summary:

The Adjunct Faculty member delivers instruction for undergraduate licensure courses that could include field-based experiences. Responsibilities include connecting course content to clinical practice, supporting students in field placements, and evaluating performance in alignment with licensure standards. The faculty member maintains attendance and grade records and provides timely, constructive feedback on professional competencies. They create a supportive and inclusive learning environment while assisting in the resolution of issues related to coursework or fieldwork. Active participation in training and professional development is required.

Course Outcomes
• Identify the types of play and their importance to the development of the whole child, along with implications for curriculum and IFSP/IEP development for student with special needs based upon the historical and current research on play
• Explain the value of the creative arts (music, art, drama, and movement) and play in primary education, both as important ends in themselves as tools for success in development in all domains
• Use creative arts and play as a foundation for children's learning and skill development, in maintaining a safe and accessible environment for all primary aged children
• Define priorities for high-quality, meaningful creative arts experiences in primary education and share ways to involve families in children's creative arts and play
• Use their own knowledge and other resources to design and evaluate meaningful creative and play experiences that promote comprehensive development and learning outcomes for all children, as well as, incorporating IFSP/IEP goal into a play-based curriculum
• Integrate developmentally appropriate and effective creative arts and play experiences into all aspects of the curriculum to influence all children's learning and skill development
• Select and adapt bias-free, culturally relevant play materials and creative activities that support learning and skill development of all primary grade children
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Teaches courses in discipline
• Maintains attendance records, determines and submits grades with established timeframes established by the University
• Creates a welcoming, inclusive and productive learning environment
• Supports the resolution of student issues related to course instruction
• Provides feedback on what is working and what is not with the course
• Participates in all department meetings and required training
• Participates in personal professional development
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Lead Faculty
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
• Minimum of an earned Master's degree with 18 graduate credit hours in field appropriate to the teaching discipline, from a regionally accredited college or university
• Preferred M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, Classroom Teaching, Reading, Special Education, Educational Leadership (K-12) or other closely related.
• Previous P-12 Teaching Experience Required
• Commitment to collaborative & collegiate relationships
• Maintain confidential and sensitive information
• Knowledge of higher education regulations, compliance and accrediting agencies
• Computer proficiency
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate in a professional manner and work effectively with faculty, staff, students and members of the professional community
• Excellent multi-tasking skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Skills and Characteristics:
• Previous teaching experience
