Accounting and Finance Director – Family Office

A private multi-generational family office is seeking a Finance & Accounting Director to support the financial management and operational infrastructure of a diversified family enterprise. The family office provides centralized financial oversight and strategic support for multiple family branches with holdings across operating businesses, real estate investments, and other diversified assets.

As an early hire within a growing organization, this individual will play a key role in helping establish the financial framework and operational processes of the family office. Working closely with senior leadership and a network of external advisors, the Finance & Accounting Director will assist in building scalable systems, strengthening governance, and supporting the financial oversight of complex entities and investments. This role requires a highly adaptable professional who is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working across a broad range of financial responsibilities in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Management (40%)
• Establish and maintain accounting processes, financial systems, and internal controls for the family office and affiliated entities
• Coordinate with outsourced accounting providers to manage day-to-day accounting activities including general ledger oversight, payables, receivables, and cash management
• Consolidate financial reporting across multiple operating companies and investment entities for internal reporting and tax coordination
• Develop financial policies, procedures, and documentation standards
• Maintain detailed records related to financial transactions, asset ownership structures, and entity reporting

Investment Support & Financial Analysis (25%)
• Track and analyze investment performance across multiple asset classes including private businesses, real estate, and marketable securities
• Support implementation and management of family office reporting systems and investment tracking tools
• Assist with liquidity management and cash flow forecasting across entities
• Support due diligence and financial analysis for potential investment opportunities
• Coordinate with external investment managers, custodians, and financial advisors
• Maintain centralized records of the family’s investment portfolio and related documentation

Tax Coordination & Planning (15%)
• Work closely with external tax advisors to support planning initiatives and ensure appropriate documentation for filings
• Assist with coordination of tax reporting across entities and investment vehicles
• Support planning related to estate considerations and tax optimization strategies
• Organize and maintain documentation required for tax compliance and reporting

Strategic Initiatives & Special Projects (15%)
• Provide analytical support to senior leadership on capital allocation and financial strategy
• Assist with financial modeling and evaluation of strategic initiatives
• Support development of annual budgets and financial forecasts for family office operations
• Contribute financial insights related to real estate assets and operating businesses
• Participate in special projects related to business development, partnerships, or operational initiatives
• Support governance and reporting initiatives as needed

Administrative Coordination (5%)
• Assist with coordination of service providers and professional advisors
• Support scheduling and preparation for internal meetings
• Maintain organized records and documentation for family office operations

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 5–10 years of experience in accounting, finance, or financial reporting
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting practices
• Experience with financial modeling and analytical reporting
• Proficiency in accounting systems and advanced Excel capabilities
• Familiarity with complex entity structures and multi-entity financial reporting
• Understanding of diversified investment portfolios and asset classes
• Willingness to travel periodically for team meetings and coordination with leadership
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information
