Accounting Analyst I

HMSA is seeking an Accounting Analyst I to perform analysis of financial information to support management in decision-making for various products and programs. The role involves evaluating financial performance, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.ResponsibilitiesReviews and conducts analysis of financial statements for HMSA and other related entities in an accurate and timely manner. This includes preparation, summarization, and maintenance of source data in various subsystems of financial dataCompiles data that is obtained from other F/A units and other HMSA departmentsConducts analysis by applying the appropriate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)Analyzes and interprets applicable laws/regulations and implements procedures to ensure compliancePrepares internal financial statements for audit by the external auditors. This includes the stand alone HMSA financial statements as well as the consolidated HMSA and/or subsidiary financial statements: balance sheet, statement of operations, statement of cash flows and the related footnote disclosuresPerforms complex analysis of financial data for both revenue and expenses for HMSA and all of its subsidiary/affiliate companiesResearches the nature and causes of variances and fluctuations in these accountsPerforms analysis independently with limited direction and supervisionPresents findings and recommendations to managementPerforms various reconciliation of financial information from source data to reported amountsAnalyzes and summarizes accounting transactions related to various HMSA contracts/programs to ensure proper recordation into the general ledger for these programsCommunicate effectively with other departments to gather this informationProvides assistance and performs research for various external and internal auditsPerforms all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned or directedSkillsBachelor's degree and one (1) year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experienceAbility to analyze financial transactions, prepare financial statements, and reconcile amounts to source documentsKnowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), health care accounting, mainframe accounting and software systemsIntermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, and AccessCompany OverviewHMSA is an insurance company that provides affordable health plans, employee benefits services and worksite wellness programs.
