The Corporate Accountant will be responsible for accounting and reporting related to the Company’s direct insurance business activities, including daily maintenance of cash books, month-end reconciliations, and preparation of financial reports.ResponsibilitiesParticipation in the Company’s monthly, quarterly and year-end accounting closingsDaily maintenance of cash books for the business unit’s depository bank accountsMonth-end reconciliation of cash books to the OPUS and DY Systems’ cash receipt registers and bank statementsRecording and balancing of all insurance transactions into the general ledgerThis would include all direct insurance transactions from our David Young ESL Office system and the OPUS source system as well as all other insurance business reported into Berkley from the Special Risk segment’s various program administratorsRecording of paid claims into the general ledger from the Company’s third-party administratorsPreparation of the Positive-Pay reconciliationPrepares a variety of schedules, account analyses, and reconciliations to support financial activities and account balances reported in the general ledgerMonthly production and distribution of list billing statements to brokers for premiums currently dueApplication of cash receipts to policyholder accounts in OPUS systemPreparation of monthly AR aging reports for distribution to brokers in pursuit of overdue premiumsProduction commission expense checks through PeopleSoft® accounting systemProvide support to the Finance team related to a variety of activities and special projects as may be required from time to timeEstablish and maintain positive working relationships with management, finance team members and all other company employees to further the company’s missionSkillsBachelors degreeSolid analytical and problem solving skills with a good understanding of internal controlsExhibits strong interpersonal skillsExcellent organizational skills, with strong ability to multi-taskProficiency with Microsoft ExcelStrong oral and written communication skills1 to 3 years of relevant insurance industry accounting experience preferredAccount major is preferredExperience with general ledger software, PeopleSoft and Oracle financial applications a plusBenefitsHealthDentalVisionLifeDisabilityWellnessPaid Time Off401(k)Profit-Sharing plansCompany OverviewBerkley Accident and Health is a risk management leader that helps individuals, groups, employers, and healthcare organizations to better understand and manage their risk.
