Academic Mentor / Learning Coach (Math & Problem Solving)

Position Summary We are seeking an Academic Mentor / Learning Coach to guide students in math and problem-solving–focused learning. This role goes beyond traditional tutoring. You will support students in understanding how to think, reason, and approach challenges independently, while building strong foundational and advanced math skills. Student age: G3 - G12 Subjects & Areas of Focus • Mathematics: Elementary Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics • Math Enrichment: Problem Solving, Logic, Advanced Reasoning, Russian Math–style instruction • Test & Competition Preparation: SSAT, ISEE, SAT, ACT, AP Exams • Math Competitions: AMC 8 / 10 / 12, CIMC (experience strongly preferred) Key Responsibilities • Deliver engaging, student-centered mentoring and coaching sessions • Assess student strengths, thinking patterns, and areas for growth • Support students in developing confidence, persistence, and independent problem-solving skills • Adapt instruction to different learning styles and developmental stages • Track student progress and provide clear, constructive feedback • Collaborate with fellow educators to maintain high instructional quality • Serve as a positive academic role model for students Required Qualifications • Experience teaching, tutoring, or mentoring students in mathematics • Strong understanding of math concepts and problem-solving strategies • Excellent communication skills with students and parents • Ability to explain complex concepts clearly and patiently • Commitment to creating a supportive and respectful learning environment Preferred Qualifications • Experience with AMC, CIMC, or other math competitions • Background in math enrichment or advanced problem-solving instruction • Familiarity with growth-mindset–based teaching approaches • Strong passion for student development and long-term academic growth • Interest in mentoring students beyond short-term test performance Why Work With Soar Kidz • Meaningful impact on students’ academic growth and confidence • Supportive, mission-driven team environment • Motivated students and families who value high-quality education • Opportunity to grow with an expanding EdTech organization Job Types: Contract, Part-time Pay: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour Benefits: • Flexible schedule Application Question(s): • Where did you go to college? • Please briefly describe your experience teaching or participating in AMC, CIMC, or other math competitions (if applicable).
