About the position The Academic Advising & Curriculum Lead at the University of Michigan plays a crucial role in supporting academic advising, student support, and curricular management for the International Institute's undergraduate and graduate programs. This position involves overseeing daily operations, coordinating curricular activities, and providing student development support while ensuring compliance with academic policies and fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. Responsibilities • Manage daily operational and administrative functions of the II academic advising & curriculum unit. • Perform ad hoc research on best practices and emerging trends in International and Area Studies. • Provide higher level faculty and center support for curriculum development and program updates. • Oversee compliance with Provost's guidelines for course scheduling and administer curricular changes. • Develop and implement advising approaches based on student-centered and culturally-responsive values. • Provide daily functional supervision of the II Academic Advising & Curriculum subunit, including staff coaching and professional development. • Provide oversight for various academic budgets totaling approximately $200,000 annually. • Support the planning and execution of key events such as Campus Visit Days and Graduate Student Orientation. Requirements • Bachelor's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Area Studies, International Studies, or related field. • 3-5 years of progressive experience in higher education administration. • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to changing environments. • Demonstrated experience in curriculum management. • Commitment to quality customer service and student-centered approaches. Nice-to-haves • Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Area Studies, International Studies, or related field. • Experience advising students and in student affairs. • Supervisory skills with 1-3 years of experience leading groups. • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in student affairs.
