3D Artist
ngx is looking for a talented intermediate-level 3D Artist to join our Animation Team! As a hybrid studio, some in-person presence at our Vancouver, BC location is preferred, but remote candidates located in Canada will also be considered. The Role
You’ll work closely with the Head of Animation and project leads to design, build, and animate 3D assets and environments for cultural, museum, and interactive experiences. In this role, you’ll take ownership of scenes from modeling and texturing through to lighting, rendering, and/or integration into Unreal. The ideal candidate is a versatile problem-solver with strong technical craft, confident camera and asset animation skills, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines while guiding junior artists or freelancers. Experience with particle systems in Houdini, Cinema 4D, or Unreal is a bonus.
You are creative with a strong understanding of composition, sequencing, and visual storytelling. Working from concept art or design briefs, you can translate ideas into functional, visually polished 3D scenes and respond flexibly within an iterative production process. You communicate clearly, offer solutions in group discussions, and know how to balance fidelity with efficiency to meet project goals.
You’re comfortable working independently, troubleshooting issues, and supporting juniors when needed. You solve problems and work through challenges with a calm, methodical approach, while knowing when to ask for input or alignment. Key Responsibilities
Work with Creative Directors and design teams to conceptualize visuals that align with project goals and deliver an impactful viewer experience
Collaborate with project teams to define creative and technical approaches for animated productions in exhibition environments
Translate design briefs or concept art into functional and aesthetic 3D scenes
Take ownership of assigned sequences or environments, from modeling to render/engine-ready delivery
Technical and creative problem solving
Direct animation contractors and junior team members to produce quality work
Participate in client presentations at project milestones

Desired Experience and Skills
Intermediate level experience
3+ years experience working in an animation or VFX studio
A portfolio that reflects your skills, range, and experience level
End-to-end experience through all phases of the 3D production pipeline
Animation of props or environmental elements that support the visuals
Proficient in Maya, Blender, or equivalent — capable of creating clean, efficient models
Strong working knowledge of Substance Painter (Designer is a bonus)
Fluency with Unreal Engine
Solid lighting and rendering fundamentals, DCC, and real-time engine (Unreal)
Comfortable preparing and exporting assets for use in Unreal Engine or Unity
Familiarity with FBX, ABC, and USD workflows
Highly organized and agile, team-oriented, solution-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple workflows and prioritize deliverables
Excellent communication skills
Commitment to delivering excellence and meeting high standards for quality, with an eye for detail and polish
Creative, imaginative, curious, flexible - willing to learn new things and adapt
Bonus Points
Knowledge of Motion Graphics and particle workflows in C4D/Houdini or Unreal
Basic knowledge of Unity
Interest in creative technology
Demonstrated engagement with arts, culture, education, history, or science
