About the position The Grade 5 Mandarin Teacher and Instructional Coach is a hybrid role, with approximately 60% of time dedicated to teaching and 40% to instructional coaching. Teaching responsibilities include delivering high-quality instruction in Chinese Language Arts, Mathematics, and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in a Mandarin immersion environment. Coaching responsibilities include providing ongoing support to teachers to build their capacity in implementing effective instructional practices, aligned with school-wide priorities. This position reports to the Principal and works in collaboration with the Director of Academics to support both classroom instruction and teacher professional growth. Responsibilities β’ Develop and implement Common Core State Standards-aligned units of study and lessons that build and integrate rigorous, hands-on, inquiry-based and student-centered learning experiences in Mandarin Chinese and all standard subjects (i.e. language arts, mathematics, social science, science) β’ Personalize learning by teaching effectively to the diversity of students in the classroom and ensuring student mastery of academic skills β’ Assess and analyze student achievement using a variety of means to collect and report on data, make strategic planning decisions, and tailor instruction to meet individual student needs β’ Use educational technology to support instruction, develop and deliver content and skill benchmarks, organize instructional materials, and track student progress β’ Establish a strong classroom culture for learning that is positive, inclusive, restorative, and contributes to the broader school community β’ Provide access and ensure results for all students (i.e. above and below grade level proficiency, with IEP's, English Learners) and integrate needed differentiation, interventions, accommodations, and extensions β’ Actively collaborate with all colleagues, contribute pedagogical knowledge and expertise, and provide shared stewardship of the school β’ Plan and pursue a program of personal professional growth and participate in both internal and external professional development activities β’ Build meaningful relationships and communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and other school stakeholders β’ Maintain a high-level of professionalism including meeting deadlines and commitments to self and the community β’ May participate in summer program teaching or professional learning or curriculum development β’ Provide instructional coaching to Mandarin immersion teachers using the Yu Ming Core 3 coaching framework β’ Develop and model classroom lessons that support delivery of classroom instruction β’ Plan, deliver and support professional development with instructional staff Requirements β’ Bachelor's Degree β’ Master's Degree, preferred β’ Valid California Teaching Credential β’ Minimum of 5 years of full-time teaching experience in a Mandarin immersion setting β’ Prior experience with instructional coaching β’ Demonstrated success improving student learning outcomes, especially for diverse learners β’ Bilingual proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English, with strong academic language in both β’ Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, with a commitment to fostering trusting relationships β’ Experience using student data to drive instructional improvement and differentiate support for teachers β’ Deep understanding of instructional best practices, including culturally responsive pedagogy and language acquisition strategies Benefits β’ Placement on the Yu Ming Charter School Salary Table based on years of experience and highest degree earned, with up to 12 years of experience recognized (prorated at 0.60 FTE) β’ Annual salary of $80,000-$95,000, prorated at 0.40 FTE based on experience and qualifications β’ An additional Annual $5000 stipend for National Board Certification β’ 100% of Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance covered by the school (depending on the selected plan) β’ Free Access to an Employee Assistance Program offering a variety of services including counseling and legal aid β’ Participation in CalStrs Retirement System β’ 11 Sick days per full time employee per school year Apply tot his job
